Jolanda van der Elst
I was born and grew up in Rotterdam (The Netherlands). And ever since I could hold a pencil, I have been drawing and painting. For a number of years I took some lessons, but I didn't go to any art academy, so for the greater part you can call me self taught.
In 2002 I decided to turn my passion into my job, which means I not only paint myself (commissions are welcome!), but also teach drawing and painting in most materials to a number of students twice a week.
As far as subjects are concerned I have a variety of interests: nature, people and animals, (historical) fashion and fairy tales.
My favorite materials are oil paint and soft pastels, but I also like working with watercolor, colored pencils and acrylics and even mixed media. You'll find many examples on this website. Perhaps you may call my work 'decorative art' or 'feel good art'.
Since 2018 I am co-organizer of Kunst aan Huis, a 2-yearly event where artists in Leidschendam-Voorburg open their home or studio to visitors, usually during a weekend in June. Www.kunstaanhuis-lv.nl
